This video is a quick clip from the Yoga Inc. movie directed by John Philp. I think some of you, like myself, will find this clip kind of funny. In video clip Trish Lamb is talking about how the yoga industry has gone to far in some of it’s marketing, because the industry is marketing yoga towards things that have nothing to do with traditional yoga values.

She is disgusted with the Chakra panties. I think they are kind of cute and kind of want to buy a pair. I know you can buy Lululemon thongs, and I don’t see anything wrong with that. But are they really worth the high price? I’m not sure, as I don’t own a pair.

So should one be outraged by the idea of Chakra or yoga panties? I don’t think so. But for sure the yoga industry is using yoga to increase the prices for common items. Why else would someone pay $20 for a thong?  It seems that the price for yoga clothing is expensive compared to other brands of workout clothing. However, some products such as Lululemon yoga pants are well worth the high price tag (see some of the posts on Lululemon Pants for justification).

Also, if you want a little bit more info on Chakra, it is related to yoga as the body has 7 Chakra energy centers. Each of the seven Chakra are found along the spine, and different yoga position can strengthen these centers. It is believed that the Chakra are the key to life and the source of energy in the universe. So by working on the yoga poses that strengthen the Chakra, you can get your life and energy in balance.
